‘The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step’... it was with a single and simple step and single minded focus that the journey of Moni Pulo Limited began in 1992 - our year of incorporation.
“The very essence of leadership is that you have to have a vision. It’s got to be a vision you articulate clearly and forcefully on every occasion. You can’t blow an uncertain trumpet.”
– Theodore Hesburgh
From inception, my focus was to establish and operate a viable business concern; an organization that would operate according to the highest and best global standards of operation. To achieve this, we chose to benchmark our operations with the multinational oil exploration companies and do the right things at the right time, from the very onset.
On March 7th, 1999, after years of preparation and planning, Moni Pulo struck First Oil; thus signalling to the exploration and production industry at large that we were truly open for business and ready to be a contender in the industry. Since then, growth has come our way. From operating our then sole asset OML 114, we have since acquired three more assets, OPL 231, OPL 234 and OPL 239. And exploration is already at a significant stage on OPL 231.
We have come this far thanks to our collective deep and abiding faith in God Almighty, on whom we rely for guidance in all we do.
We have also developed key business philosophies, like our Vision through which we seek ‘To serve as a reference for excellence in the oil and gas industry.’ This Vision remains our compass; steering us consistently towards attaining heights of excellence in our operations. This way we can take our cue from global best practices.
While most people are aware of my deep and abiding passion for our beloved country Nigeria, they are also in no doubt about my unrelenting commitment to developmental issues in the Niger Delta. In steering the affairs of Moni Pulo, these two passions fused into a burning desire to build an organization which would demonstrate on all levels that we, Nigerians can successfully operate assets in the upstream sector of the oil and gas industry. As the Moni Pulo story unfolds over the years, it becomes more obvious that with the correct orientation, exposure and motivation a fully indigenous workforce like ours, can do things right.
It is important to us and to succeeding generations of indigenous entrepreneurs that the Moni Pulo story continues to be told. It is vital that we remain increasingly relevant in our industry and country. The Board of Directors of Moni Pulo Limited remains committed to this focus. And there is a vibrant, professional and engaged team in place to manage the daily operations and to ensure, with the help of God, the continued success of the Moni Pulo story.
A poet wrote these touching words: ‘We have miles to go and promises to keep before we sleep.’ I pray that God Almighty will help us walk those long miles and keep all those promises successfully.
